愛知県名古屋市のほぼ中心部、中区錦２丁目「長者町」が過去約20年にわたって、まちづくりの中にアートをとりいれてきたことや、２０１０年から始まった３年に一度の芸術祭「あいちトリエンナーレ」のまちなか会場を３度、約１０年にわたって務めてきたことをきっかけに 様々なアーチストやデザイナーといったクリエイターやアカデミアがこの長者町のエリアに注目し、アトリエやスタジオ、ギャラリーや デザイン事務所などを構え、それぞれにこの場所の経済とも結びつきながら、住人でありつつ外側からの視点も持って活動を継続しています。
また、高い技術やアイデアを持ったクリ エイター達がそれぞれに運営する小さな塾や学校、ワークショップ等も点在し、水面下では仕事帰りの会社員や主婦など、大人達のための学びの街にもなってきています。「長者町スクールオブアート」は、ガッチリしたひとつの学校組織という訳ではなく、この街や、その周囲で様々な形でこの街に関わって其々に活動するクリエイターの点をつないだネットワーク組織です。
街おこしの為というわけではなく、十分に成熟し経済も回るこの街を、どう面白く、教育的で、クリエイターを生み出す学園ような場にしていくかということを、独立した立場のまま考え、時に協働して創造的な活動を実現していこうとする組織です。
スクールに集う方々は、アートに縁のない背景や仕事や暮らしをしているかもしれません が、長者町スクール・オブ・アートの仕組みの中のスクール・イベント・場に参加するうちに、自分の表現活動を始めたり、企画を考えたりする「送り手」に変わっていったりしていきます。
趣味に終わらないレベルで、大人が学び、 送り手として社会を面白くしていく「人を生み出していくこと」を名古屋の中心のビジネスエリアである長者町で展開していくことを長者町スクール・オブ・アーツは目指しています。

About Chojamachi School of Arts
In the center of Nagoya-city, Aichi Prefecture, Nakaku 2-chome area "Chojamachi" has taken up art in the town development for about 20 years, and had hosted the art festival Aichi Triennale (once in three years art festival) since 2010 for about 10 years. Because of the recent artistic activities in the area, creators such as various style of artists, designers and academias attracted their attentions to the area of Chojamachi. Some of them actually moved in the area and started running their atelier, studio, gallery, design office etc. They are continuing activities with viewpoints from the outside while being residents, while linking with the economy of this place in each.
In addition, small cram art schools, art workshops and educational events operated by creators with higher skills and ideas are also started to be produced. The area is beginning to be known as a private educational district for grown ups such as workers and housewives and post graduate students, etc. "Chojamachi School of Arts" is not a large-scale established school organization. It is a network organization that links the points of independent creators like us who run cram schools, educational workshops and various creative activities in and around the area in various ways.
Chojamachi School of Arts is not simply aiming for vitalizing the town's economy, but thinking about this area in the big city like Nagoya where it is matured enough and economically growing. We are trying to make the area in the center of big city be fun, educational, and a place like campus. Members of this organization works independently as art professionals and work together at occasions when we try to realize large scale activities.
People coming to this “campus” might be from variety of backgrounds that are not related to art, however, as they participated our schools or events under the structure of Chojamachi School of Arts, they turn themselves into creators and start their own expression activities and projects.
We, Chojamachi School of Arts are aiming to create more creators in the society. We would like to make people restart their creative learning here beyond their hobbies, and make our society fun as creators in this business area located in the center of Nagoya.
